In 2007 I finally took the leap and here I am, at the end of the course. I have opened my business “Guardian K9 of Dyersburg, Tennessee” and will have my first weekend classes start Saturday, December 8th along with private lessons that are already scheduled. My business plan hopes to reduce the number of euthanized dogs in Dyer County, provide affordable training to the area so fewer dogs are given up for adoption and to breed “High Octane Malinois” to be sold to professionals. I saw an ad for the Tom Rose School for TopTtrainers, in Dog World Mag- Aug. 2001. Well after 6 long years later, I made it to Missouri and passed all requirements in the Associates Program and now have the confidence and skills to accomplish any goal i could ever have in the pet industry. They always said in school that what your learning my seem simple, but when you get out you really see how far ahead of the competion you will be!! Nicole Henzl
My name is Nicole Henzl, I am a certified dog trainer and graduate of The Tom Rose School. My husband is a military dog handler, we currently live on Scott AFB.

I have shown dogs for several years, but I have only been certified for about a year. I was in school going for my psych degree when I noticed that all I could think about was agility practice and competitions. I noticed that I was happiest when I was training and competing with my dogs. (I am sure a lot of you can relate!!) It was what I would look forward to. My trainer at the time said, "you know, you should become a dog trainer" and the rest is history. My grandparents where really unhappy that I let my college go to waste, but once they saw how happy I was, and how happy I can help people be, they support me to the fullest now. However, I am planning on going back to school because ultimately I want to become an animal behaviorist.

I went to the Tom Rose School for dog trainers and completed his professional dog trainers course which takes about 20 weeks. In order to pass you have to train many dogs to do many different things plus teach multiple group and private lessons. In order to graduate you must train three dogs to complete an AKC novice routine, one dog to complete an AKC open, three dogs to do trained retrieves, two dogs to do send outs, one dog must pass an AKC novice agility, you must certify one dog with theNNDDA (national narcotic detector dog association) to find cocaine, crystal meth, and marijuana, one dog must pass a Shutzhund II level in tracking, and one dog must pass a shutzhund BH obedience routine. You also have to multiple group and private lessons and help out during protection class. Not to mention you must learn every aspect and method of training and deal with every kind of behavioral problem. I also became a certified dog agitator. Whoo, that's a lot, but I did it!!:)

Nicole has opened up her own business in Waterloo, Illinois: Gateway Dog Training. Visit her website @ www.gatewaydogtraining.net.
